Float Away Pain

By Camille Pierson

Chronic pain affects a surprisingly large percentage of the population. Whether it’s caused by fibromyalgia, an accident, sports injuries, arthritis, illness or postural problems, it can have a severe impact on the sufferer’s quality of life. Sleep is affected and poor sleep leads to more pain and miserable nights. Fortunately, floatation can offer relief from a wide range of different types of pain including joint pain, muscular pain, digestive pain and even migraines. Here are some of the ways floatation makes life easier for long term pain sufferers:

Float Away Pain 1Freedom from Gravity

The high concentration of Epsom salts in floatation pods allow the body to float completely weightlessly. This means that joints and muscles that normally have to support body weight or be pressed down by it are free to relax and open up. Blood can then flow into the joints and all parts of the muscles freely. Increased blood flow encourages healing and the lack of pressure in these areas makes them less painful. Over time, the increased blood flow and lack of tension in joints and muscles will improve their condition. This is a particularly important factor in relieving pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis, traumatic injuries and osteoarthritis.

Stress Relief

Stress and tension are major factors in lots of different types of pain such as migraines, tension headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, back and neck pain, fibromyalgia and muscular pain. It can also cause long term physical and mental health problems. Floating relieves stress by removing all sensory input so the mind can rest as well as the body. After around 40 minutes of floatation, the brainwaves actually change to what is called the Theta state. These brainwaves are associated with deep meditative states and profound relaxation. Stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenalin are also reduced which helps both mind and body to relax and the symptoms of stress such as pain are alleviated.

Sleep Easy

Pain, stress and poor sleep form a vicious cycle where each makes the others worse and the overall suffering becomes very bad indeed. Floatation can help to break the cycle by relieving stress, lessening pain and encouraging better sleep. Relaxing muscles and quietening the mind are extensively used techniques to promote healthy sleep. Floating also creates a feeling of overall wellbeing which is also conducive to good quality sleep which, in turn, promotes healing, rejuvenation and all round good health.
