About Nutritional Therapy

Nutritional Therapy is the application of evidence-based nutrition science to promote health and wellbeing and utilises a functional medicine approach to address the root cause of health issues. Our Registered Nutritional Therapist, Joanna Majithia, uses a range of tools to assess your health and then makes dietary/nutrition and lifestyle recommendations to optimise your wellbeing, reduce the risk of disease and help support chronic conditions. As each person is unique the nutrition programmes recommended are personally tailored to you.

Areas of nutrition that can be dealt with include:

  • Digestive problems, IBS, constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, reflux, IBD (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), coeliac disease, leaky gut, SIBO, candida overgrowth
  • Food allergies and intolerance
  • Hormonal imbalances, PMS, endometriosis, fibroids, PCOS, menopause
  • Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism
  • Weight management
  • Sports nutrition
  • Stress, fatigue, busy lifestyles, sleep problems
  • Cardiovascular health, high blood pressure, cholesterol
  • Skin health, eczema, psoriasis, acne
  • Immune health including auto-immune conditions, UTIs, sinusitis, hayfever
  • Healthy ageing and general wellbeing

With so many conflicting messages about healthy eating Joanna can help you focus on what applies to you personally, giving you confidence that you are eating healthily and getting the nutrients you need for optimal wellbeing. With increasingly busy lifestyles, a nutrition programme can help take the hard work out of planning meals and fitting in exercising. Nutritional therapy is a great way to take control of your health, feel empowered and encourage your body’s natural healing ability.

What happens during a nutritional therapy consultation?

During your one-to-one consultation at the Float Spa’s nutrition clinic you will discuss your health concerns, health history, diet and lifestyle and Joanna will establish your goal for the programme. She will then explain what she feels are the key contributory factors and how to address them, recommending achievable dietary and lifestyle adjustments and in some cases nutraceutical supplements. She also is able to refer you for private diagnostic tests (for example stool analysis; hormone testing including thyroid, adrenal, female hormones; food intolerance testing; nutrient deficiencies; heavy metal overload; DNA testing and nutritional MOT) if needed. You will receive your written report and health optimisation plan after your consultation, along with menu planners and recipe ideas. Follow up consultations are usually recommended in 3 – 6 weeks.
