Yin Yoga at The Float Spa in Hove
Yin Yoga is a quiet, mindful practice of floor based postures approached in a way that allows us to target our connective tissues (fascia and ligaments) as opposed to our muscles. The three main ingredients that define Yin are:
– Holding the pose at an appropriate depth
– Releasing muscular effort and tension.
– Staying in the pose for 3-5 minutes, with mindful awareness.
Yin helps to restore function to our overall muscular-skeletal system and is a great complement to other styles of yoga and movement. The emphasis on mindfulness reduces stress and anxiety, leading us to a calmer and happier way of being.
On a subtle level, the practice has its roots in the philosophy of Daoism and the theory of Chinese Medicine. Yin postures help to restore the healthy flow of chi through the meridians; in doing so we help to address imbalances in our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
