Yin Yang yoga is, as the name suggests, all about balancing opposing elements. Stillness and movement, warm and cool, high and low, active and passive, internal and external, downward focus and upward focus are combined and blended together to create a varied and balanced form of yoga. People enjoy Yin Yang yoga because it combines the benefits of other forms of yoga to leave you feeling invigorated and relaxed all at once. This online beginners’ course gives you a thorough grounding in this form of yoga so you feel confident to join a studio class knowing that you know what to do and what to expect.
Because this a flowing form of yoga, it is important to learn the individual postures you will be moving into and out of to execute them effectively. That is why, in this course, you don’t just learn the fundamental principles of this yoga system, you also learn each of the main poses, how to get in and out of them and how to adapt them to either make them easier or more challenging depending on your individual needs. Breathing is also a really important part of flow yoga styles, and all yoga styles really, so this course will teach you how to use the breath with the movements to help relax the muscles and calm the mind.
To fit with the Yin side of this yoga practice – which focuses more on stillness, sitting and laying postures, internal focus, etc. – you will also learn relaxation techniques like meditation and mindfulness either through guided meditations or focus on the breath as you move or hold a posture. This helps to clear your mind of the usual chatter by giving it something to focus on in the present. Many people find this, in combination with the more strenuous Yang side of the practice, to be very relaxing and leave them feeling clear-headed and refreshed.
Balancing the two styles of Yin and Yang yoga like this means you receive the benefits of stretching the small connective tissues which is the focus of Yin yoga as well as the muscle strengthening, balance and flexibility benefits that you receive with Yang yoga techniques. It also means that, as a beginners course, it gives you a great insight into all that yoga has to offer as you experience both the static passive side and the flowing active side. Putting these together keeps your mind and body switched on and leaves you feeling like you have exercised and relaxed at the same time.
This online beginners’ course in Yin Yang Flow yoga is suitable for people who are brand new to yoga but also those who have not tried this form of yoga before but are experienced in other styles. It is six sessions long which you can take part in when and where you like.
This 6 session course gives you the basics of Yin Yang Flow Yoga, each session varies in length.
